Mentoring
I believe engaging students in the laboratory can be a life-changing experience; however, mentoring means more than teaching students how to use a set of pipettes. As a mentor, I want to inspire my mentees to be their best selves and reach their goals academically and professionally–be this as a sounding board for possible career paths, or connecting them to available resources both within and outside of the university. I want my mentees to not be afraid to ask questions and make mistakes. It is through making mistakes that we make the greatest intellectual leaps.
Teaching Philosophy
I believe in a student-centered approach to teaching that mimics the scientific method. By teaching my students the fundamental concepts and providing them with appropriate resources, I create an environment that allows students to learn through the discovery and reporting of their findings.
